We never pierce at 20 gauge. It's too thin — thinner jewelry has a higher risk of migration (the piercing slowly moving through the tissue) and cheese-wiring (the jewelry cutting through the skin like a wire through cheese). Thinner isn't more delicate or better — it's more likely to cause problems.
