Tattoo San Antonio

Looking for the best tattoo shop in San Antonio? Bárû Mu has been the go-to destination for quality tattoos since 2000. Located at 5545 NW Loop 410, we are a family-owned and operated shop built by the Yuchnitz family over more than 26 years of dedicated work. With 7 talented tattoo artists and 2 professional piercers on staff, we handle everything from small walk-in pieces to massive multi-session custom work — and we do it all at a level that keeps people coming back for years.

San Antonio is a city with deep roots in art, culture, and self-expression, and the tattoo community here reflects that. From the Chicano tattoo traditions that have shaped black and gray work worldwide to the modern explosion of color realism, fine line, and neo-traditional styles, San Antonio has always been a tattoo city. Bárû Mu is proud to be part of that legacy — serving this community for over two decades and contributing to the culture that makes this city unique.

What sets Bárû Mu apart from the dozens of other shops in San Antonio is consistency. Any shop can have one good artist. We have seven — each with their own specialty and style, each chosen because they bring real talent and genuine dedication. Whether you want photorealistic portraits, bold traditional work, delicate fine-line designs, Japanese-inspired sleeves, vibrant watercolor pieces, or clean custom lettering, there is an artist on our team who specializes in exactly that.

ABOUT Bárû Mu

Bárû Mu was founded in 2000 by the Yuchnitz family with a simple mission — do great work, treat people right, and build something that lasts. Twenty-six years later, that mission has not changed. We are not a franchise. We are not a corporate chain. We are a family business that takes pride in every piece of work that leaves our chairs.

Our shop is located at 5545 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78238 — easy to find, plenty of parking, and accessible from anywhere in the city. We are right off Loop 410, making us convenient whether you are coming from downtown, the Medical Center, UTSA, the Northwest Side, or any of the surrounding communities like Leon Valley, Helotes, and Balcones Heights.

Walk-ins are always welcome. We keep artists available for walk-in pieces throughout our operating hours, so if you wake up one day and decide you want a tattoo, you can come in and make it happen. For larger custom projects, we offer free consultations — no deposit required just to talk about your idea and meet your artist.

OUR SERVICES

We offer the full range of tattoo services: custom tattoos in every style, cover-ups, reworks and touch-ups, and collaborative design sessions where your artist works with you to create something truly original. Our tattoo styles include black and gray, color realism, traditional and neo-traditional, fine line and single needle, Japanese and Irezumi-inspired work, geometric and dotwork, lettering and script, watercolor, new school, and more.

Beyond tattoos, our 2 professional piercers handle everything from standard ear lobe piercings to advanced cartilage work, nostril and septum piercings, lip and tongue piercings, navel piercings, dermal anchors, and more. All piercings use implant-grade titanium jewelry, single-use sterile needles, and autoclave-sterilized equipment. We never use piercing guns.

WHY CLIENTS CHOOSE US

Experience matters in tattooing. With 26 years in business, we have seen trends come and go, and our artists have adapted and grown with the industry. We invest in continuing education, attend conventions, and stay current with the latest techniques, equipment, and safety standards. Our autoclave is spore-tested regularly, we use single-use needles and tubes, and our shop exceeds health department requirements.

But the real reason people choose Bárû Mu is the work itself. Our artists produce consistently excellent tattoos across every style we offer. Browse our portfolio — in person or online — and you will see the range and quality that 26 years of dedication produces. We are proud of every piece, and we stand behind our work.

We also believe in honest pricing. No bait-and-switch, no hidden fees, no quoting low to get you in the door and then charging more once you are committed. Your artist will give you a clear estimate during your consultation, and that estimate is what you will pay. Tattoos at Bárû Mu typically range from $100 to $200 per hour, with small pieces starting around $80 to $150.

SHOP HOURS AND LOCATION

We are open Monday through Thursday from 12 PM to 11 PM, Friday and Saturday from 12 PM to 12 AM, and Sunday from 12 PM to 7 PM. Extended evening and weekend hours mean you can get tattooed on your schedule, not ours. Our address is 5545 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78238. Give us a call at (210) 682-5239 or just walk in.

STYLES WE SPECIALIZE IN

Our team covers the full spectrum of tattoo styles. Black and gray realism and portraiture. Full color realism — animals, flowers, landscapes, pop culture. Traditional American and neo-traditional with bold lines and vibrant colors. Fine line and micro tattoos with delicate detail. Japanese-inspired work including koi, dragons, cherry blossoms, and full-body compositions. Geometric patterns and sacred geometry. Dotwork and stipple shading. Lettering, script, and calligraphy in every language. Chicano-style work honoring the deep local tradition. Watercolor and painterly techniques. Cover-ups and reworks of old or unwanted tattoos.

No matter what style you want, we have an artist who lives and breathes it. During your consultation, we will match you with the artist whose strengths align with your vision. That is one of the biggest advantages of a shop with 7 artists — you get a specialist, not a generalist trying to do everything.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
