When you walk in for an ear piercing, your piercer will start by examining your ear anatomy and discussing what you want. If you are building a curated ear, they will help you plan the full layout — even if you are only getting one piercing today. They will mark the precise placement with a surgical marker and have you check it in a mirror.
No needle touches skin until you are completely happy with the position.
The actual piercing takes just a few seconds — a quick, sharp sensation followed by immediate relief. Your piercer will insert the jewelry, check everything for proper placement and alignment, and clean the area. The entire appointment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes including consultation, marking, and aftercare discussion.
For multiple piercings in one session, allow 30 to 60 minutes.

Pain for ear piercings varies by placement. Standard lobes are about a 2 out of 10 — barely anything. Helix and flat piercings are around 3 to 4.
Tragus, conch, and rook piercings are 4 to 5. Daith piercings are about a 5. Industrial piercings, which pass through two cartilage points, are a solid 5 to 6.
Most people are surprised by how quick and manageable the actual piercing is — the anticipation is worse than the act.
Healing times vary significantly by placement. Lobes heal in 6 to 8 weeks. Cartilage piercings — helix, conch, tragus, daith, rook, flat — take 6 to 12 months for full healing.
Industrials are in the 9 to 12 month range. During healing, expect some initial swelling, occasional tenderness, and possible discharge of clear or whitish fluid (lymph), which is normal and not a sign of infection.
Keep it simple: clean your piercing 2 times a day with sterile saline solution (we recommend NeilMed wound wash). Do not twist, turn, or sleep on fresh piercings. Avoid touching with unwashed hands.
No swimming pools, hot tubs, or submerging in water until healed. Avoid changing jewelry too early — wait until your piercer gives you the all-clear, which is usually after the full healing period.
Come back for a check-up at 4 to 6 weeks, and your piercer will assess healing and downsize your jewelry if appropriate. Downsizing is important for cartilage piercings — the longer initial post accommodates swelling, but once swelling subsides, a shorter post reduces the risk of snagging and promotes better healing.
