What is the minimum age for ear piercing?
We pierce infants and children of all ages with a parent or legal guardian present. For teens under 18, a parent or guardian must be present and provide consent. We don't have a minimum age, but we do require that the child is calm enough for a safe procedure — we'll never force a child who is too distressed.
Do you use needles or a gun for kids?
Needles only — always, for every age. Piercing guns are not sterilizable and cause blunt-force trauma to tissue. A properly performed needle piercing heals faster, hurts about the same, and carries a much lower infection risk. We use single-use, sterile needles for every piercing.
What jewelry do you use for children's ear piercings?
ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium with flat, threadless backs. This is the same material used in medical implants — it's hypoallergenic, biocompatible, and contains no nickel. We never use mystery metals or stainless steel for initial piercings. If your child has metal sensitivities, solid 14k gold is also available.
Does it hurt? What should I expect?
It's a quick pinch — over in about two seconds per ear. Most children are surprised by how fast it is. We talk to kids before piercing, explain what will happen, and go at their pace. If a child is too upset to proceed safely, we'll stop. A good experience matters more than getting it done that day.
What do we need to bring for a minor's piercing?
A parent or legal guardian must be present — not just available by phone. Bring a valid government-issued ID for the adult. Minors under 13 also benefit from bringing any notes about metal allergies or skin sensitivities. We'll handle the rest.
How do we care for a child's new ear piercing?
Spray with sterile saline wound wash (not homemade salt water) twice daily — once in the morning, once at night. Do not rotate the jewelry. Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments like Neosporin. Keep hair products away from the piercing. Lobes should be healed in 6–8 weeks.
